Sky Blue Builders was awarded the enabling work scope and provided project management support for the Colorado Convention Center Expansion, a large-scale design-build project led by Hensel Phelps for the City and County of Denver. The work supported early-phase construction activities critical to advancing the overall expansion while maintaining coordination with the active convention center environment.
Working alongside the design-build team, Sky Blue Builders focused on planning, coordination, and execution of enabling activities that prepared the site and systems for subsequent construction phases. This role required close collaboration with the prime contractor, City stakeholders, and project partners to align sequencing, logistics, and schedule requirements.
The project was delivered within a dense downtown setting and adjacent to ongoing convention and event operations, requiring disciplined coordination, clear communication, and proactive issue resolution. Sky Blue Builders’ involvement emphasized integration with broader project workflows while supporting safe access and uninterrupted facility operations.
Through responsive project management and collaborative delivery, Sky Blue Builders contributed to the successful completion of the expansion, which opened in late 2023 and began hosting events in early 2024—enhancing the City’s capacity to support large-scale conventions and civic events.
