Sky Blue Builders was awarded an SBE General Construction On-Call contract with Denver International Airport in 2017, marking the firm’s first direct prime contract with the airport. Over the course of the contract, Sky Blue Builders delivered a wide range of task-order work supporting terminal reconfiguration efforts and ongoing airport operations in advance of the Great Hall renovation and other major capital programs.
Under this on-call delivery model, Sky Blue Builders completed numerous task orders spanning tenant renovations, infrastructure upgrades, signage and security improvements, asset relocations, mitigation work, and specialized maintenance scopes. Work was executed across both landside and airside facilities, often within highly constrained, occupied spaces requiring careful coordination with airport operations, airlines, and City and County of Denver inspectors.
A majority of the work was self-performed and completed during overnight and off-peak hours to minimize disruption to passengers and airport staff. Sky Blue Builders maintained dedicated on-site leadership and crews capable of responding quickly to shifting priorities, managing logistics within secure environments, and sequencing work to meet fast-tracked schedules.
Through this on-call work, Sky Blue Builders developed deep familiarity with DEN’s administrative, safety, and operational requirements, including security protocols, certified payroll reporting, and airport-specific project controls. The firm’s performance on these contracts established a strong foundation for its continued role supporting complex construction and infrastructure work throughout DEN’s active terminal and support facilities.
