Sky Blue Builders was selected to perform comprehensive ADA upgrades at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House as part of the City and County of Denver’s broader accessibility initiatives. The project focused on correcting non-compliant elements throughout public, back-of-house, and performance-adjacent spaces within an active cultural facility.
The work was executed in multiple phases to align with the venue’s performance calendar, requiring careful sequencing and coordination to preserve patron access, life-safety systems, and ongoing operations. Improvements were integrated across a range of architectural, structural, and building system elements while maintaining the architectural integrity of the historic venue.
Sky Blue Builders coordinated closely with City stakeholders, facility operations, and the project team to manage logistics, inspections, and evolving site conditions. Phased scheduling, disciplined planning, and clear communication were critical to maintaining safety and minimizing disruption during overlapping construction and event activities.
Through proactive field leadership and close stakeholder collaboration, Sky Blue Builders successfully delivered the project in compliance with ADA requirements, City standards, and prevailing wage obligations—supporting inclusive access to Denver’s performing arts community while preserving the functionality and character of this landmark venue.
