Sky Blue Builders completed the MYEC Zuni HVAC & Parking Lot Replacement in September 2021, delivering major mechanical system upgrades and site improvements during the school’s summer recess.
The project included replacement of rooftop units (RTUs) with new ductwork and VAV systems serving classrooms, multi-purpose rooms, and administrative offices, along with extensive interior corridor foundation work. Exterior improvements consisted of full replacement of the asphalt parking lot and installation of a storm detention pond. Due to the project’s combined interior and exterior scope, Sky Blue Builders coordinated closely with multiple consultants and Denver Public Schools departments, including civil, mechanical, and architectural teams. When unforeseen conditions were encountered—such as discovery of an underground storage tank during parking lot excavation—work was paused and resolved through close collaboration and regulatory coordination. More than 20 permits and numerous inspections were required, all managed while maintaining schedule and safety in an occupied school environment. Through clear communication, proactive planning, and refined project administration, the team successfully delivered the project before the start of the school year with minimal post-occupancy work required.
