Sky Blue Builders delivered design-build site development and open space improvements for the Environmental Learning for Kids (ELK) project at Montbello Open Space in Denver. The work encompassed approximately five acres and included restoration and enhancement of parkland, trail systems, boulders, rock features, irrigation infrastructure, and site preparation to support long-term educational programming and future campus development.
Originally envisioned as a multi-phase effort due to funding constraints, the project required a flexible approach to sequencing and construction. Sky Blue Builders collaborated with the owner and project partners to optimize phasing by coordinating irrigation, grading, and foundation-related work alongside open space restoration, reducing mobilizations and improving overall schedule efficiency.
Construction activities were carefully managed to minimize disruption to the surrounding neighborhood. Approved truck routes, temporary barriers, and controlled site access were implemented to maintain safety and limit impacts to nearby residents. The completed open space now serves as a lasting community asset and outdoor classroom supporting ELK’s mission of environmental education and youth engagement.
