The Freyer–Newman Center for Science, Art, and Education serves as a major cultural and educational addition to the Denver Botanic Gardens, uniting galleries, classrooms, research spaces, and public amenities within a LEED Gold–certified facility. Completed in 2020, the project marked the final phase of the Gardens’ long-term master development plan.
Sky Blue Builders participated as part of the project’s construction team, self-performing foundation systems, site concrete, hardscape, and stairwells for the new facility. As one of the first contractors mobilized on site, Sky Blue played a key role in establishing early work sequencing and enabling vertical construction to proceed on schedule.
Work was executed within a highly active public campus, requiring careful coordination with GH Phipps, design partners, and Denver Botanic Gardens stakeholders. Sky Blue Builders managed logistics, trade coordination, and sequencing while maintaining safety and access throughout the site.
The project also included coordination with adjacent historic structures and phased campus operations, reinforcing the need for precision, communication, and disciplined execution. Upon completion, the Freyer–Newman Center expanded the Gardens’ capacity for education, research, and public engagement while strengthening the cultural fabric of the campus.
