Sky Blue Builders served as the prime contractor for the design-build renovation of a two-story, approximately 5,000-square-foot facility supporting Gilpin County’s Public Health and Human Services departments. The project repurposed an existing residential-style structure into a functional, modern government facility tailored to the operational needs of multiple county agencies.

The renovation included comprehensive upgrades to building systems and interiors to achieve Green Globes Level 3 certification, comparable to LEED Silver standards. Extensive programming sessions were conducted with end users to ensure the layout, adjacencies, and functional spaces aligned with daily operations, regulatory requirements, and long-term county objectives.

Located in a high-alpine environment, the project required careful coordination of site planning, grading, utilities, parking, and landscaping within steep terrain and constrained existing conditions. Sky Blue Builders worked closely with Gilpin County, the Fire Department, end users, and a third-party plan reviewer to integrate fire access, circulation requirements, and sustainability measures into the evolving design.

The project involved coordination among a multidisciplinary consultant team, and required adaptive problem-solving as design and programming evolved. Structural modifications were incorporated mid-design to support second-floor capacity, requiring adjustments to framing and interior configurations. Through disciplined coordination, collaborative design management, and early subcontractor involvement, Sky Blue Builders controlled costs and delivered the project successfully while meeting sustainability goals and county budget expectations.
