As part of Construction Safety Week, Sky Blue Builders Senior Safety Manager Julie Maxwell-Vasquez recently joined KOA Radio to discuss the importance of maintaining a strong safety culture across the construction industry.
During the interview, Julie highlighted the value of weekly safety meetings, avoiding shortcuts, and maintaining focus both on and off the jobsite. She also discussed how today’s safety challenges extend beyond traditional jobsite hazards, pointing to roadway safety, workplace violence, and mental health awareness as growing areas of concern.
“Driving is one of the most dangerous things that we all do,” Julie noted during the segment.
Julie also emphasized how lapses in focus, especially around holidays and schedule disruptions, can contribute to workplace incidents, reinforcing the need for consistent communication, accountability, and training throughout every phase of a project.
