The NC-135 Demolition Project at Kirtland Air Force Base involved the comprehensive demolition of approximately 13 fenced acres, including more than 43,000 square feet of prefabricated facilities located adjacent to active flight operations. Performed under strict federal oversight, the project required careful coordination of environmental compliance, safety protocols, and infrastructure preservation within a sensitive military installation.
Sky Blue Builders executed selective and full demolition while managing asbestos abatement, lead-based materials, PCB-containing components, and electrical transformer removal. Critical utilities serving adjacent operations were preserved and protected throughout demolition, requiring precise sequencing and real-time coordination. Site restoration was completed in compliance with federal environmental standards, ensuring the area was safely returned for future use.
The project demanded advanced logistical planning due to high-wind zone conditions, proximity to active flight lines, and Foreign Object Debris (FOD) controls. Adaptive scheduling strategies were implemented to maintain progress while addressing changing site conditions and regulatory approvals. Extensive documentation—including job hazard analyses, environmental plans, and abatement approvals—was maintained to meet federal, state, and local compliance requirements.
Throughout construction, Sky Blue Builders maintained a rigorous safety culture, coordinating with federal agencies and base stakeholders to ensure uninterrupted operations and life-safety protection. The successful completion of the NC-135 Demolition Project demonstrated Sky Blue Builders’ ability to deliver complex infrastructure removal projects in mission-critical, highly regulated aviation environments.
