Client(s): National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL)

Sector: Federal

Location: Golden, CO

Status: Completed 2025

Delivery Method: Firm-Fixed-Price (Lump Sum)

Sky Blue Builders performed a laboratory buildout within the Energy Systems Integration Facility (ESIF) at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colorado. The project involved modifying the OCL Room C220 space to accommodate the installation and commissioning of three new environmental chambers required to support NREL and Department of Energy research programs requiring tightly controlled environmental conditions.

The scope included interior modifications to support new research equipment, upgrades to building systems, and the construction of a mezzanine to facilitate access to the upper environmental chamber while creating additional space for the relocation of existing research equipment. All work was executed within an active research environment, requiring careful coordination, containment, and sequencing to maintain ongoing operations.

Sky Blue Builders’ approach emphasized early planning, close coordination with ESIF facility management, and strict adherence to safety and quality protocols typical of mission-critical laboratory environments. The project leveraged Sky Blue Builders’ extensive experience delivering complex renovations within occupied federal research facilities.
