The Southeast Rail Line Extension was a $140 million regional transit investment that expanded RTD light rail service into southern Douglas County. Sky Blue Builders was responsible for site improvements and station platform construction at three stations—Lone Tree City Center, SkyRidge, and RidgeGate—supporting enhanced multimodal access and long-term transit-oriented development.
Sky Blue Builders’ scope included extensive cast-in-place concrete work for station platforms and public spaces. Platform construction involved ADA tactile panels, high-block foundations, crossing ramps, trench drains, reinforcing steel, fine grading, and sawcutting and sealing. In addition, the team delivered station plaza and sidewalk improvements, including stairways, plaza paving, ADA ramps, planter walls, multi-use paths, stamped concrete, bollards, landscape curbs, and demolition and replacement of existing paving.
At the RidgeGate station, Sky Blue Builders also completed major curb and concrete paving work to support bus loop operations and surface parking, including railway curbs, integral curb and gutter, parking islands, striping, and concrete paving adjacent to active rail infrastructure. The work was executed in close coordination with rail, earthwork, and utility contractors operating concurrently across the corridor.
Building on prior experience delivering six stations along the I-225 Light Rail Corridor, Sky Blue Builders was able to adapt sequencing and placement strategies to maintain schedule performance despite weather impacts and upstream delays. Through monolithic pours, increased pour sizes, and flexible phasing, the team compressed durations and maintained progress across all three stations. Weekly coordination meetings and disciplined field execution ensured the successful delivery of high-visibility public infrastructure within an active transit environment.
